Mark is from Cary, North Carolina and studied math and chemistry at Duke for undergrad, where he stayed for a PhD in computer science in Bruce Donald’s lab at Duke, supported by James B. Duke, NDSEG, PhRMA and Liebmann fellowships. His thesis focused on developing protein design algorithms that incorporate better modeling of the underlying biophysics. After graduating in 2016, he continued to develop these algorithms as a research assistant professor at TTI Chicago. He is excited to apply and improve upon these algorithms at Gavilan to make a difference in drug discovery!
