Nick Plante

Director of Technology, Program R&D, SOSV

Product designer, software architect, community organizer, and venture partner for URBAN-X, SOSV’s smart cities program. Currently leading tech infrastructure and new program R&D efforts for SOSV, focused on open data, machine intelligence, and IoT.

Nick has worked in CEO, CTO and director-level roles at various startups, and has served as a software and strategy consultant for businesses ranging from small product startups to Fortune 500 companies. An advisor to HAX since its founding in 2012, Nick joined SOSV full-time in 2015, and now lends his experience to help companies across our diverse accelerator programs and portfolio.

Prior to SOSV, Nick co-founded several companies, including Wefunder and Mogotest, and consulted for a variety of businesses ranging from small product startups to Fortune 500 companies. He also created the Rumble hackathon series, the largest online development competition of its kind. He has made significant contributions in the areas of developer ecosystem tools (Docmeta, Mogotest), open data (BankLocal), alt-currencies and crowdfunding (Wefunder and the US JOBS Act, shaping the future of equity crowdfunding).

Nick is passionate about open source, democratization of finance, urban and local sustainability, machine learning, and improving the world through technology. He has a MS in Computer Science from Northeastern University, is a published author, and a board member at a local-first non-profit.
