Axem Neurotechnology Inc.

Empowering stroke survivors with home rehabilitation using neurotechnology.

Company Details

Over 50 million people around the world have survived a stroke, and each year over 20 million new strokes occur. Roughly 80% of stroke survivors experience upper extremity disability. Rehabilitation is the standard of care but is constrained by limited access, high costs and poor compliance.

Axem Neurotechnology is developing a home upper-extremity rehabilitation system for stroke survivors. Their first product, the Axem Home, includes software that guides users through their home exercise program while a portable brain-sensing device measures brain activity. Unlike existing solutions, brain activity measurement can detect movement intention, imagination, and observation — which means encouraging feedback can be provided even to patients with limited movement ability. Research has shown that this can improve and track rehabilitation outcomes, but has never been available at scale before Axem’s patent-pending technology. Finally, our whole solution enables remote monitoring by healthcare professionals and peer support to ensure the best outcomes are reached.

The Axem Home is currently in development, the underlying innovations patent pending, and early validation studies are taking place this Fall. Axem plans to support trials with their prestigious clinical partners in Canada and the United States, and is seeking partners in the Europe. Axem is targeting a seed financing in the first half of 2020.
