The Speakers
Jamie Hankins is a Startup Portfolio Manager at Third Derivative, a collaborative climate tech ecosystem that accelerates startups and drives climate innovation. Jamie has nearly eight years of experience spanning global entrepreneurship, international development, climate policy and corporate finance. Prior to joining D3, Jamie spent three years as a Global Portfolio Manager at Endeavor where he oversaw a portfolio of 180+ high-growth startups spanning 40 markets.
Gabriel Kra co-founded Prelude Ventures in 2013, after almost 25 years as an investor, entrepreneur, scientist, activist, and ski-bum. Before launching Prelude Ventures, Gabriel spent four years as an investment banker with Deutsche Bank in its solar and semiconductor groups. He also was an early employee at venture-backed telecommunications and semiconductor start-ups, where he was instrumental in raising money, launching products, developing technology and getting acquired.
Alex Harbour is a Principal at Prelude Ventures, a climate tech fund deploying $1.5B across the low-carbon economy. Prior to Prelude, Alex was a founding employee and investor at Powerhouse, an innovation firm and seed fund backing software-enabled technology for clean energy and electric mobility. Alex is a 2020 Forbes 30 Under 30 in Energy, a World Economic Forum Global Shaper, and an alum and founding member of the Clean Energy Leadership Institute (CELI) Bay Area chapter.
Andrew Sparks is a partner in Goodwin’s Technology group and Co-Chair of the Climate Technology practice. His practice focuses on representing fast-growing emerging technology companies and the entrepreneurs who build them. Mr. Sparks has a broad range of experience in venture capital financings and corporate matters, including counseling founders in starting new businesses, capitalization structures, fundraising, strategic issues, negotiations with investors and acquirers, and M&A.
Dr. Samantha Deacon is a Senior Associate in Goodwin’s Technology and Life Sciences group and Co-Leader of the Climate Technology Practice, focusing on commercialization of intellectual property rights. Dr. Deacon advises on strategic transactions, including licenses and collaboration agreements, as well as wider commercial and R&D projects. Samantha holds an award-winning PhD from the University of Cambridge in Materials Science, where she focused on semiconductors for energy saving lighting.
