Giraffe Bio
The global transition to net-zero emissions hinges on the mining of critical minerals, yet copper and lithium production, projected to grow 30% and 465% by 2050, will still fall short of meeting demand. Mining faces daunting challenges: 70% of copper remains locked in low-grade ores, and extracting it is increasingly uneconomical due to the massive […]
Augment Biologics
Life is programmed by three classes of biopolymers: polynucleotides (DNA/RNA), polypeptides (proteins), and polysaccharides (glycans). We’ve learned to “write” genes and proteins like software, but glycosylation is still a finicky, expensive manufacturing problem. That’s a big deal: the wrong glycan can slash an antibody’s efficacy, trigger allergic reactions, or turn a multi-million-dollar batch into scrap. […]
Here are videos for all the sessions at the 2022 SOSV Climate Tech Summit

Q&A: Augment Bio, Glycosylation by Design
Our entire biotech sector is built on the ability to control two of life’s foundational biopolymers – think DNA and proteins. Recombinant biotechnology, gene editing – being able to program life has unlocked incredible value. But controlling the third class of biopolymer has been tricky. Long chains of sugars called glycans cluster on every surface […]
Fermeate
Fermeate is the first startup in the world to apply optogenetics and photomolecular gene circuits to microbial based biomanufacturing. In plain English, they control gene activity with pulsed, programmed light. Developed over the past 11 years in the Avalos lab at Princeton, Fermeate is from the same academic lineage that inspired Prolific Machines, which we […]

Mothership Materials
The $5 trillion bioeconomy aims to produce next-generation food, fuels, and fabrics, but it faces a critical bottleneck: a shortage of affordable, carbon-negative feedstocks.
